Thanks for airing Maple Leaf Dog. Though the song is humorous, there's history behind it. Mr. King had Irish Terrier named Pat -- a succession of them, actually. In Dr. Stanley Coren's book "Pawprints of History" are documented incidents in which either a pet's relationship to historical figure, or a breed obeying its ancestral imperative, acted to influenced the course of events. Great book, confirming the validity of this folk classic.

Brock Zeman is playing tonight at Barnstorm tonight in Finch. Tic, CKCU's Wednesday morning host, puts this festival. Well worth attending as it is an event as much as an evening of music: camping, bonfires, trails to explore, light show, videos in the woods etc..http://barnstorm.ca/this-years-lineup/

Great set of music, Judy and Ross. I love the the issues and the messages they contain. It was also a real treat to hear the crackle of the vinyl on the airwaves. There's nothing like it! It was also a great treat to hear you once again, Maria. Thank you for your beautiful voice and passion. I love the work you have done over the years, both as a performer and a recording artist, and as a teacher, sharing your passion for music with younger generations. You are an inspiration!

The Naglers were not the only Cdn folkies to sing about Marco Polo. Back on her first album (vinyl, folk genre), Jane Siberry sang about how Marco's girlfriend might react to his travels and to his return... Maybe time to revisit her early work? Back then Chopper had commented about her deserving to be a star...
