Saturday February 7th, 2015 with Arthur II and Chris White
David Wiffen, Steve Berndt

An exclusive live interview with folk legend David Wiffen, with excerpts from his surprising new album entitled "Songs from the Lost & Found" (True North Records). The album features 17 previously unreleased studio tracks recorded in the 1970's and 1980's. David talks with Arthur II about the circumstances under which he wrote and recorded these fascinating, beautiful songs that until recently were believed to be lost. See Mike Regenstreif's excellent review of the album at http://frfb.blogspot.ca/2015/02/david-wiffen-songs-from-lost-found.html. Vocalist Steve Berndt droppped by to chat about his upcoming concert with pianist Brian Browne on Friday, Feb. 13 at La Grange de la Gatineau in Cantley.

After years of being beyond the reach of CKCU FM, I am delighted to find you guys keeping up Chopper's tradition on the internet. I tuned in late, but am enjoying listening to David. This is great. I owe Chopper, and all of you (Chris, Gene, Arthur, Dean...) SO much. Sail on, and thank you.

Never understood the music biz. Hearing this, I understand it even less. Some journey! All's well that ends well.

The story of the lost tapes comes from a storage unit Richard Patterson had. There was a major leak in the unit that destroyed much of what was in it and Richard lost a lot of his records and some tapes. Thankfully, these tapes were stored at his home.

How great to hear you back, David. We've missed you terribly! We need to know where to get ahold of this album, so many of us want it, even unheard, so don't let that slip. If it's David Wiffin voice it will be good. Please let us know what's going on....! Really hope to see you again soon..

'Already commented that it was terrific to hear David's interview, and that there is a new album. I wish someone would help out though by getting him on Facebook and anything else that would give all of his albums some notoriety. He is just not out there on social media, so only us diehards know he is still around, and even 'we' only hear through the grapvine.

Well, as a bonus(for those who don't already know), David Wiffen's 1971 self titled Fantasy records LP was reissued on both CD and Vinyl last year. The CD contains a few bonus tracks taken from David's "Missing tapes" archive. Something Ian McLeish & myself helped out on-along with getting the "Songs from the Lost & Found" album put together. A labor of love for sure.

How wonderful to listen to David's long-lost song recordings. Your interview with him, about his music and his life, brought back so many memories of David in Ottawa in the 60s and 70s - Le Hibou, Treble Clef, SAW Gallery, the Folk Festival, the farm. Writing a story with a song. Shared stories, some. A troubadour, a poet, he told our stories too.

Imagine my feelings when I played these tapes for the first time and heard these songs. Why were they not released? This material was as good as or better than his other albums. I knew I had to get a CD out. It took almost four years for it to all come together, but now everyone can share the joy of "new" David Wiffen material. Thanks to David Sampson, as ever, for great sound and to Joanne & David Wiffen, as well as David MacMillan at True North ....(these are all the Daves I know).
