Happy Birthday Dave Cousins: Tracks from the Strawbs and then more mellotron soaked tunes inc. Genesis, PFM, White Willow, Morte Macabre, Anekdoten, and Celeste

Happy Birthday Dave Cousins and then more mellotron soaked tunes. Dave Cousins and Tony Hooper formed the bluegrass group the Strawberry Hill Boys in 1964 moving forward over the next few years into a folk-rock outfit until the addition of Rick Wakeman, Richard Hudson on drums, and John Ford on bass (Hudson Ford / The Monks) in 1970 steered more towards a folk-rock / progressive sound. Keyboardist Blue Weaver from Amen Corner replaced Rick Wakeman the next year continuing with the major keyboard presence. 1974 saw the addition of Chas Cronk on bass and Rod Coombes on drums(Juicy Lucy and Stealers Wheel) and with John Hawken, one of the founding members of Renaissance and The Nashville teens (Tobacco Road), cemented the mellotron sound of the "classic" Strawbs and also their most commercial years. Dave Cousins is still active today and has appeared on over 80 releases. The mellotron has long been associated with progressive rock and other genres, but too many examples too play in a single show, so tonight just a few. "tuning a mellotron doesn't" Robert Fripp

I was listening to The Association, 1970 live on vinyl, and was wondering what little edge was missing. Found it! Thanks again, and thanks for the big blue "Listen Now" button, because today's show is a definite re-listen.
