Third World Players Present
Thursday February 5th, 2015 with Lloyd Stanford
Of Letters, Public Affairs and the Visual & Performing Arts in the Life of Des Doran (part I)
TWP Presents: Series for February 5, 12 & 19, 2015 entitled "Of Letters, Public Affairs and the Visual & Performing Arts in the Life of Des Doran"
In addition to Karl Gordon’s “Tribute to Martin Luther King Jr.” presented last week, we are very pleased to broadcast for Black History Month a new series on a local leader of a different sort. On February 5,12 & 19 you will hear your host Lloyd Stanford in conversation with the versatile Jamaican-born Canadian, economist, retired public servant and tireless award-winning community volunteer, Des Doran, about his upbringing in Jamaica, his passage to Canada and his remarkable professional career and community work here.
Although, in his modesty, he was reluctant to be featured on our ‘literary’ program, the radio audience, including some of his friends, will be surprised by the impact of ‘letters’ on him, his own literary and theatrical activities and interests, and will be inspired by his reflections on his upbringing, education and early work in Jamaica, his tertiary education in Canada and experience as researcher in agricultural economics in Canada and abroad, as university professor and as specialist in matters related to world food production working in the Canadian federal government.
His observations are made with clarity, charming candor and, where warranted, a sense of humour. The radio will also be delighted with the music he has selected, from his impressive collection, for these broadcasts.
As usual, we broadcast at 6 p.m. on Thursdays on CKCU-FM at 93.1 FM [Eastern Standard Time in the season] in the National Capital Region, and world wide, live, on the Internet at www.ckcufm.com.
The series will be available COD on the Web site, each program for 30 days after initial airing. Listeners may also want to listen, at other times, to more ‘podcasts’ listed under “Third World Players Present} in the ‘Programs’ section of the Web site.
