Some Western dedications with alt. country, a few R&B gems and some scorching soul.
Beginning the show on a sombre note. A dedication to a good man who passed away on Dec. 4th. To Bud Petersen, a father, a husband and a collector of antique firearms. These next two songs goes out to you Bud. Rest in peace. |

I have to buy a lot of music from the past to be able to do Roots & Rhythms on alternate Wednesday nights. As far as I'm concerned if I haven't heard it before, it's new. Here's a gem, perhaps my favourite song of the year, recorded by the composer of Fever, Little Willie John. Little Willie John killed a man in a bar fight and died in prison.
"My Love Is" is followed by Peggy Lee's version of Fever. Peggy Lee added some verses to the song. "Coolin' Out" is a smouldering instrumental by JC Davis. Bear Family Records released an amazing series of soul recordings from the Sixties, each disc is a different year. From 1962 we hear the soul rave up, "I Need Your Loving" by Don Gardner & Dee Dee Ford. |

The Nightriders recorded "Lookin' For My Baby" sometime between '56 & '64.
The Legendary Shack Shaker are from Paducah, Kentucky and are one of the most rockin' roots bands going. This is from the Yep Rock "Oh Santa!" compilation. |

The last set is a set of rocking organ tunes. "I'm A Cowboy Now" is a B-3 workout featuring Bob Wiseman on organ and Bob Snider on vocals. Originally released on Snider's album "You" on Moose Records.
Joe Reilly is stuck in traffic so I'll continue with the organ music. Listen to The Guest List to catch the rest of this set. The James Taylor Quartet are an English group on the Acid Jazz label. James Taylor used to play in the English garage band The Prisoners. "Blow Up" is a cover of a Herbie Hancock instrumental that was recorded for the movie of the same name. "Four Wise Men" is from Floridian rocker Charlie Pickett & The MC3's album "The Wilderness". |
