Aug 16th 2012 marks the 15th anniversary of the great Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's death aged only 48 years. I was hosting my program when I heard the news, and I was greatly shocked and saddened. His music opened up a whole world of music and greatly influenced how I listen to music. He has no equal.

Years ago I was in Toronto visiting my brother. He got called away back to work so I found myself at a loose end for the afternoon. I decided to wander around and explore the city a bit. While I was walking, I heard the sound of singing. I was immediately drawn to it-I had never heard anything like it before. I followed the music and found myself in front of an outdoor stage where Nusrat was performing. I didn’t know who he was at the time, but I was completely entranced. It was like I was the only person there. I was mesmerized by his voice and have been ever since. It remains one of the best afternoons of my life.
