Continuing my Sibelius symphony cycle with Sibelius' 3rd symphony
Today we continue my Sibelius Symphony Cycle featuring his 3rd symphony composed in 1907. This work shows a change in direction for his symphonic output, contrasting quite strongly with his grandly Romantic 2nd symphony, he focuses on much tighter construction and more economic use of musical resources. However it is still a rich, joyful work, full of ingenious use of beautiful musical themes, generally with strong sense of perpetual momentum with a surprisingly abrupt ending.
