The Morgenland All Star Band Part II: Live in Beirut. Incredible Kurdish singer Aynur. Canadian composer Keyan Emami's "The Black Fish"

We continue this week with the 2nd concert recording from the multinational, multiethnic, multi-talented Morgenland All Star Band. This band is comprised of singers Dima Orsho and Ibrahim Keivo, Frederik Koster trumpet, Ziya Guckan violin, Moslem Rahal ney, Michel Godard tuba and serpent, Salman Gambarov piano, Andreas Muller bass, Rony Barrak percussion, Bodek Janke drums, and perhaps tying it all together is acclaimed clarinettist Kinan Azmeh. You can read more about the origins of the band and listen to their Hannover concert in part I here: https://cod.ckcufm.com/programs/105/59064.html We are going to bookend the Beirut concert with two songs from the incredible Kurdish singer Aynur Dogan. She has been inhabiting the same musical orbit as many of the musicians in the Morgenland festival, where she has appeared. She just recently finished a couple of shows with Kinan Azmeh and the NDR Big Band in Germany and has collaborated with the pianist Salman Gambarov on several albums including her most recent heard today.

We continue with "The Black Fish" for narrator, mixed ensemble, and electronics by Canadian composer Keyan Emami. This work was composed in 2020, is in three movements and is an exploration of the "mixed and conflicting emotional landscape of the adventurer". The three movements reflect the very diverse musical background of Keyan Emami, of particular interest is the third movement entitled "Swimming in D". This is inspired by Terry Riley's "In C". Here, the patterns which the musicians have the liberty of repeating are based on the Persian Radif. The Black Fish Ensemble which performs this work is comprised of the Majd Sekkar clarinet, Louis Pino and Naoko Tsujita percussionists, Andrew Downing Bass, the Ton Beau String Quartet, and Keyan Emami narrator and electronics.

Excellent music, mostly listened to on headphones, while quietly clearing snow...

My 3rd time out today. Mind, also helping some neighbours. You 'have to', just because there's so much.
