Liszt's 200th birthday is coming up on Oct. 22. To celebrate we hear his greatest piano piece, the magnificent piano sonata in b minor. The only piano sonata of the 19th century after 1830 which equaled the models of Beethoven's for piano. Horowitz with his unmatched orchestral sonority and passion is one of the greatest Liszt interpreters. We also hear his 1st Mephisto Waltz in the truly demonic version of Busoni with Horowitz's own additions, a miraculous live recording from 1979.
