Franz Liszt and the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival

The Ottawa Chamber Music Festival is showcasing a few concerts of Liszt's music this year, the bicentennial of Liszt's birth. Also a pleasant surprise, they are programming a lot of music from the rarer and unknown spectrum of Liszt's works. Including an all-Liszt choral and organ concert Saturday evening, featuring his avant-garde Via Crucis from 1879, composed decades before any similiar modern techniques appeared elsewhere. Also appearing at the Chamber Festival Friday afternoon is a recital of Liszt's piano and voice with Italian pianist Mauro Bertoli and singer Monica Whicher. Sunday evening the great pianist Marc-Andre Hamelin will be performing one of the pinnacles of 19th century Piano, Liszt's magnificent sonata in b minor. More information at www.ottawachamberfest.com
