Thursday May 20th, 2021 with David Dalle
Malian music in New York City and Paris; Brooklyn Raga Massive; Hariprasad Chaurasia and more.

We will start with an amazing new song that we heard last week that I have been listening to almost every day. It's from Ballaké Sissoko's new album "Djourou" which features collaborations with a number of French and Malian musicians. Sissoko is joined by three members of the Parisian group Feu! Chatteron for the final song on the album "Un vêtement pour la lune". A terribly melancholic song full of extravagant metaphor and literary references which show influences of Jacques Brel among others. We will also hear several of my favourite songs from West Africa, from Salif Keita, and from Abdoulayé Diabate, the late Kassé Mady Diabaté's younger brother, who shares lead vocals with another wonderful singer Adjaratou Tapani Sissoko in his New York City based group Super Manden.
