An in-depth conversation with Frank Horvat and his pandemic project "Music for Self-Isolation"
Today I am joined by Ottawa and Toronto composer Frank Horvat for an in-depth conversation about his pandemic project "Music for Self-Isolation". A series of mostly solo compositions with a few duos for musicians to play and perform at home during this pandemic. Over 150 musicians globally have shared videos of their performances through social media over the past year. Last week, a recording was released of the 32 works which were recorded in an empty Roy Thompson Hall in January.

We start the next set with a couple of pieces from an amazing new collection of the music of William Parker, the legendary American double-bassist, composer, and bandleader, primarily in his own unique free jazz styles. I am astounded and extremely pleased to see the enormous commitment to new music, ten full albums with all new music and recordings made between 2018-2020. Parker produced all ten albums, and though he performs on some of the tracks, the focus is on his music, not his performance. It was released in January of this year, and the first edition 10 CD box set was sold out quickly, they released a 2nd and final edition which will likely sell out as well. We will hear much of this collection over the next year.
