New guitar music from Senegal with Tidiane Thiam; unique Rajasthani and Copenhagen ambient electronica fusion; Romantic Piano Concerto vol. 80 and more
Today we will hear a new release from Sahel Sounds, a very intimate solo recording by Senegalese guitarist Tidiane Thiam. The recording was made in his home at night with a single microphone in 2014, just his guitar and the accompaniment of crickets. He is a self-taught guitarist whose music is based on folklore of Northern Mali. However we start the show with the Barmer Boys from Rajasthan, something from their album Kesariya Balm and their unique recording they made in one-take with Copenhagen-based band Himmelrum. It's a terrific mix of passionate Rajasthani singing, percussion, harmonium and morchang with the ambient distorted guitars, trumpet and electronica of Himmelrum.

| We hear from the most recent addition to Hyperion Record's incredible Romantic Piano Concerto series, volume 80 (volume 81 is almost set to be released!), which features concertos from the Belgium composers Auguste Dupont and Peter Benoit. We will hear Benoit's Symphonic Poem for piano and Orchestra Op. 43 from 1865. A very lush, passionate piece with Flemish melodies full of yearning which ends in a relentless wild hunt. |
