Continuing my survey of Mahler's symphonies with his massive, transcendant 2nd symphony. Mahler's 2nd is a vast epic dealing with life, death, and ultimate redemption. I chose a recording with one of the three conductors who knew and worked with Mahler personally, Otto Klemperer met Mahler while working with him as assistant conductor for a performance of the 2nd in 1905, and also worked with him for the premiere of Mahler's 8th symphony in 1910.
