There have been many commentaries comparing the revolutionary fever burning through the Arab world today to the revolutionary waves through Europe in 1848-9. The revolutions of 1848, particularly in Hungary, ultimately ended in failure. And here are two of Liszt's most profound musical reactions to it. Both incredibly dignfied, dramatic and passionate laments with strong Hungarian overtones.
May the Arab revolutions of 2011 be more successful with better outcomes for those nations and their people.
