A look at some incredible concerts coming to Ottawa this month

A look at two terrific concerts taking place in Ottawa this month. The first is Under the Estonian Musical Sky, the 3rd in the series presented by Music & Beyond featuring Montreal's Constantinople with esteemed guests. This concert will be just a duo, with Constantinople's director Kiya Tabassian with Estonian experimental violinist, singer, and electronic artist Maarja Nuut. I can easily state the music they will create---his rooted in Persian classical, with influence from early European, Turkish and many other traditions, and hers, rooted in Estonian folk but surging forth with electronic looping and effects, radical vocals--will be unique and completely new. The last two concerts were superb, I will not be surprised if this one surpasses them. We will hear quite a few pieces from Maarja Nuut. The concert will be Monday evening at 7pm: https://musicandbeyond.ca/event/under-the-estonian-musical-sky/ (they are also performing in Montreal and Quebec Saturday and Sunday, I can provide details if you wish) The other concert is an exceedingly rare opportunity to hear one of the most prominent living artists in one of the Arab world's greatest musical traditions. Hussein Al Adhami is a master of Iraqi classical Maqam performance. Particularly after more than a decade of war and conflict, this tradition is greatly endangered.
