Toronto Symphony Orchestra and Bruckner; Canadian composer Kevin Lau
Today we look at the Toronto Symphony Orchestra's visit to Ottawa tomorrow (Friday May 8th). They are performing Anton Bruckner's 7th symphony, a violin concerto by Haydn, and a new orchestral work by young Canadian composer Kevin Lau. Kevin Lau received his doctorate in music composition from the University of Toronto and has been very active with compositions and supporting new music. This has included co-founding the Sneak Peek Orchestra in Toronto which focuses on emerging Canadian musicians and composers. We hear this orchestera in a performance of Kevin Lau's "Water of Life" for violin and orchestra. It is a tonal work which showcases Lau's interest in fantasy and sci-fi inspirations and shows distant kinship to Rimsky-Korsakov.
We will also hear the Toronto Symphony Orchestra in a live recording of Bruckner's 4th symphony.
