BACKGROUND ON THE CHARITIES
Play It Cool:
Play It Cool is a skill enhancement program of the Canadian Spinal Research Organization’s Shoot For A Cure campaign, which aims to reduce the incidence of neurotrauma (concussion and spine) injuries in hockey. It is a comprehensive program supported by proven scientific research to help keep hockey safe. The Play It Cool program has a online platform (www.playitcoolhockey.com) uniting hockey programs from across North America to ultimately promote a safer more effective game of hockey. This combined approach teaches coaches, parent and kids that skill enhancement and education is the key to injury prevention.
Faucher Douglas Trust Fund:
As many of you are aware, a very dear friend, father, brother and husband in our community, Rene Faucher suffered severe injuries due to a fluke fall in a pickup hockey game on Sunday January 17, 2010. He went into the boards head first, and suffered a major spinal cord injury. He underwent surgery late into the evening on Sunday, January 17th and was told on Monday morning he should not expect to walk again.
Many of us can only imagine what we would do in a situation like this. It is terrible and tragic. Rene and Dianne (his wife) have three small children under the age of 5. Like most families, Rene and Dianne are not in a position to cope with the financial burden ahead. Unfortunately, they do not have long-term disability insurance. Most of you know Rene and Dianne well, but for those of you who do not, they are the type of people that truly make a difference in our community. They are caring and giving beyond belief. Dianne has been raising money for various charities in Ottawa for the past 10 years. Now is our time to return the favour.
I would ask you to reach into your hearts and only imagine if you were in this situation how grateful you would be to have the help of the people who love you and the support of your local community. Please donate today to help this amazing family that really needs our support. Every donation counts and will make a difference.
THE VENUE:
Located at 117 Centrepointe Drive in the Commerce Court office complex across from Centrepointe theatre, Brad Marsh’s Bar-B-Q and Grill is the place to be on April 14, 2010. You will find great food, great atmosphere and friendly staff, seven days a week!
