Comedian Tracey MacDonald, recently named MacLean Magazine’s Top Thirty Under 30, is set to headline the fundraiser Breast in Show: a Mammorial Night in Comedy!
MacDonald, originally from Halifax, exploded onto the international comedy scene after getting her start in Ottawa, ON. MacDonald has been headlining across North America and you may have seen her on CTV, CBS, CBC and much more. She is excited to travel back to Ottawa from her home in Los Angeles to support breast cancer awareness and education, an issue that is very important to her as she just finished a year of treatment in April.

The event is in support of Be the Choice, a not-for-profit organization formed in Ottawa that has built an interactive, fully bilingual, digital tool that helps patients and their advocates navigate a breast cancer diagnosis. The tool has already been used by over 8,000 breast cancer patients in Canada and beyond. Patients overwhelmingly report that it has empowered them to make informed decisions about the treatment they receive.
Be the Choice was founded in 2012 by Melanie Adrian and Robin Beasley. They were both breast cancer survivors. “We had become intimately familiar with the cancer health care system in Ontario,” says Adrian, “and had experienced a dramatic lack of information in trying to understand our own diagnoses and what our treatment options were.” Together with a team of experts in breast cancer research and medicine, Adrian, Beasley and dedicated volunteers developed an online tool which they call the Decision Tree.
All proceeds from Breast in Show will go directly into the work of Be the Choice to develop the Decision Tree to make it easier for breast cancer patients and their friends and families to use. The aim is to reach as many patient communities as possible and continue to offer this support tool for free.
