The students in Community Engaged Sociology at Carleton University are supporting Immigrant Women Services Ottawa (IWSO) and the development of a new social enterprise sewing program with the first annual afternoon tea.
Did you know that in a period of six months, at least seventy-eight women in Canada were killed by violence in 2018? Likely more, through many of these cases go unnoticed particularly in marginalised communities. Immigrant women affected by these devastating circumstances often face limitations when seeking help and a way out. IWSO is an organisation dedicated to serving newcomer victims and survivors of violence -- specifically intimate partner violence -- through crisis intervention, counselling and employment services. IWSO’s impact throughout the community is fundamental to the well-being of these women and our community. Unfortunately, funding received by the IWSO varies each year and this hinders the provision of programs and services.
In order to make our fundraising event a success, we are requesting your support, either through a contribution to the silent auction or a monetary donation. (Tax receipts available upon request.)
Tickets $20 per adult & $10 per student at https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/shes-more-every-woman-
