Bloody Hilarious: An Evening of Menstrual Storytelling
7:00 PM on Thursday Mar. 8th, 2018
St. Alban's Anglican Church, 454 King Edward Ave.
Price: $10//PWYC

Menstrual stigma and limited access to hygiene products inhibit the social and educational mobility of girls and women around the globe. This International Women's Day, the women of St. Albans Church want to confront this issue. We are partnering with Help Lesotho, an Ottawa-based NGO that provides a range of services to the small, but impoverished nation of Lesotho. One of Help Lesotho's many projects provides washable menstrual kits to girls who would otherwise be absent from school during their menses. These kits last for 150 days, which will last each girl for approximately three year of uninterrupted education.

To sponsor this crucial arm of Help Lesotho's work, we are tackling menstrual stigma with humour and honesty with "Bloody Hilarious: An Evening of Menstrual Storytelling". Open discussions about menstrual health are still taboo for many, despite the wisdom and relief that can be enjoyed from knowing that others have shared similar experiences. Which is why we're seeking 7 to 8 women, across a wide range of ages and experience, to share their best period story. Bring your best first period/white jeans disaster/peri-menopausal/post-childbirth/laughably relatable stories to allie@stalbanschurch.ca to register.

The evening will follow an open mic format, with multimedia presentations between speakers, refreshments, and a silent auction.

This event is open to women of all ages (and respectfully curious men), and is $10 or PWYC.

A collection of unopened pads, tampons, and liners will also be taken up to be donated to The Well, a local resource centre for vulnerable women and children.

*This venue is wheelchair accessible.*
