Get political at Cube Gallery as renowned Canadian artist Allan Harding MacKay casts his gimlet eye on scandals in the Senate, stirs the election pot, and pokes our public conscience. Court Painter, Good to Go! is an exhibition of MacKay at his searing, satirical best as he takes aim at all things political from the ongoing trial of suspended Senator Mike Duffy, the follies of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, and the tomfoolery of some of Canada's other top public figures.

MacKays skillfully constructed collages are created from the vantage of the Court Painter as chronicler of Canada's politicos, players, journalists and hangers-on in what could be regarded as a revival of the traditional relationship between the artist and those who consider themselves to be the ruling elite. It is a style reminiscent of the 18th Century satirist and social critic William Hogarth.(1697-1764). Look closely at this contemporary take on The Court Painter and be prepared to be shocked and bemused by MacKay's penchant for political peccadilloes.
Over the span of his visual arts career, Allan Harding MacKay has been a professional artist, gallery director, curator, and arts administrator. He has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally. His work is held in numerous permanent public collections including the Canada Council Art Bank, National Gallery of Canada, Canadian War Museum, Confederation Centre Art Gallery, Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Art Gallery of Alberta and Kunstmuseum Bern Switzerland as well as corporate and private collections in Canada and Switzerland.
MacKay has served as a visiting artist, resident artist and lecturer at several Canadian universities, art colleges, public galleries and national conferences and has been awarded numerous artist grants by the Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council and Alberta Foundation of the Arts. At the invitation of the Canadian Department of Defence the artist served on two war artist assignments in Somalia (1993) and Afghanistan (2002). His studio is in Banff, Alberta.
