When Spirits Awaken Khadija Baker
January 17 - February 14, 2015
Gallery 101, 51 B Young Street

When Spirits Awaken is a solo exhibition of a collection of multimedia installations based on women's stories gathered and presented by Kurdish-Syrian artist Khadija Baker. These stories pay homage to the Syrian revolution and to mothers who experienced the loss of their loved ones or who have also been killed asking for freedom and basic human rights. In this current project, we will install three recent performance installations: Don't leave me...I am still alive, My Little Voice Can't Lie and When Spirits Awaken. Together, we will explore the questions that drive Ms. Baker's artistic production.

-How much history do we share?
-How do our experiences translate across diversities of privilege and victimization?
-What can we do now to be useful in bringing about change for peace today?

Come in from the cold and share your stories throughout the run of the program. G101 is excited to join in Ms. Baker's artistic research about oral histories and our shared human perspectives on persecution, displacement, identity, and healing.
