Urinetown: The Musical

The show runs March 18th to 20th and 24th to 27th at the Kailash Mital Theatre at Carleton University.

Directed by veteran Ottawa director Matt Minter, “Urinetown: The Musical” takes a comic look
at petty small town politics, jibing at capitalism and socialism along the way. The show also satirizes some of the sentiments found within the musicals we’ve come to know and love – and the ending even surprises.

The plot surrounds a town suffering a colossal water shortage. In an effort to deal with the
problem, local government has outlawed the use of private toilets. Residents must instead use
public, ‘pay-per-pee’ amenities operated by the Urine Good Company. With taxes and fines
levied for the most basic needs, the town is begging for a hero to help it rise against this
draconian tyranny.

The original production debuted at the New York Fringe Festival and moved to Broadway in
2001 before being picked up by theatre companies across North America. It is a laugh-out-loud
show, filled with spoof, spectacle and satire.

Urinetown: The Musical is produced by Sock ‘n’ Buskin Theatre Company, in association with
Erudite Theatre.
