Ronna Bloom with Michelle Desbarats
8:00 PM on Tuesday Mar. 9th, 2010
Ottawa Arts Court, 2 Daly Avenue

On Tuesday, March 9, Tree will feature poet Ronna Bloom, and Michelle Desbarats will perform by special invitation. The evening will begin at 8pm, and preceding the reading from 6:45-7:45 Terry Ann Carter will host a workshop for emerging writers.

Ronna Bloom is a poet, teacher and psychotherapist. For many years she has written and taught poetry, performed, published, shared it in festivals, libraries, living rooms and classrooms. For her, poetry has been a vehicle of expression, a way to connect with others, and a manner of responding to the world. She has written four books: Fear of the Ride (Carleton University Press, 1986), Personal Effects (Pedlar Press, 2000), Public Works (Pedlar Press, 2004) and Permiso (Pedlar Press, 2009). Fear of the Ride was shortlisted for the Gerard Lampert Award and Public Works was shortlisted for the Pat Lowther Award. Meg Walker of the Globe & Mail says Bloom’s latest offering, Permiso, has a “synthesis of contradictory passions into graceful poetics” and “accept[s] almost any sound—in this case any subject matter—as permissible textures for honest poems.” Recently, she has begun working as a poetry coach.

Terry Ann Carter's second of four workshops will focus on word fragments and jazz-like improvisation.
