Le Chœur gai d’Ottawa Gay Men’s Chorus (CGOGMC), the National Capital Region’s gay community chorus, proudly launches its fall term with virtual open rehearsals on September 16 and 23 at 7:00 pm.
Although COVID-19 has forced us to put in-person rehearsals and concerts on hold, we are looking forward to an exciting fall term of virtual rehearsals, training and social activities, culminating in our virtual, December concert, “Oh What Fun!” a fun and uplifting combination of modern Christmas carols and age-old classics in English and French – and much, much more!
We are also thrilled to announce that Tim Piper, who has served as the chorus’s accompanist for the past seven years, will lead the chorus this fall. As the musical director of St. Bartholomew’s Anglican Church in Ottawa, and Chorale Lyrica, a series of choirs for children and youth in Gatineau, Tim brings a wealth of experience to the chorus.
The CGOGMC is a non-auditioned chorus, open to those who identify as men, and who are able to learn and perform a choral repertoire within the standard tenor, baritone and bass singing parts. For the past 34 years, the chorus has provided an inclusive, supportive, and social space for its members where they can safely affirm their identity while developing and strengthening their musical skills.
“Although COVID-19 has come with challenges, it has also created exciting opportunities,” said Simon Cridland, president of the CGOGMC. “In addition to welcoming back our current singers, virtual rehearsals and concerts will allow us to welcome new and former singers who live outside the National Capital Region or who face challenges attending in-person activities. Virtual concerts will also allow us to spread our message of inclusion, acceptance and pride to much broader audiences in the National Capital Region, Canada and beyond.”
