The CFI Moves Programming Online
April 22 - July 31, 2020
https://www.facebook.com/CanadianFilmInstitute/, -

Dear CFI supporter,

We hope you are doing well and staying healthy during this challenging time.

As you have heard, the City of Ottawa has closed all of its facilities until June 30, which means we won't be able to present the African, Greek, and Israeli film festivals in June. We are disappointed at this development, of course, but this the reality we face right now.

There is some good news, though! Stay tuned for some exciting new online content coming your way very soon, including an online version of our Canadian guest artist series, The Enlightened Screen.

But first, you can enjoy a program of Canadian independent animation with our touring program EyeCANdy. This 77 minute program serves up a sample dish of the wild, provocative, poignant and mildly insane visions of Canada’s brightest contemporary animation artists. It will be available to watch online from April 29 - May 5. Tickets are pay-what-you-can. Read the program book and purchase your ticket here: CFI-ICF.ca/EyeCANdy

National Canadian Film Day is today, Wednesday, April 22! As we cannot host an event this year, we recommend checking out #CanFilmDay Live
this evening on YouTube
or Facebook
. Get ready for an evening of your favourite Canadians in film! See the schedule and guests:
https://canadianfilmday.ca/live/

And if you're looking for more Canadian films to watch today (when aren't you, right?), you can see our most recent Canadian Master, Peter Mettler's films at the online Visions du Réel retrospective of his work. The films are free (if you register for the distributor's site and share on Facebook) until May 2, and include a masterclass with Mettler on May 1. Check out the Visions du Réel website for more details: https://www.visionsdureel.ch/en/programme-2020/a/888-dispo17au24

In addition to the amazing opportunity to watch Peter Mettler's work for free, go to NFB.ca
to uncover a comedic gem from 1985, 90 Days. It's directed by late, great Canadian filmmaker Giles Walker (he succumbed to cancer on March 23rd). Known primarily for his documentary work, Walker broke through as a fiction filmmaker with 90 Days, a comedy about two middle-aged men in search of love: one tries the conventional route; the other, a mail order bride. It's offbeat romantic comedy, Canadian style.
