Spirit of Rasputin's greets 2020 with an unusual musical pairing. Stephen Hardy Palmer, raised on gospel, country and the blues and a veteran of folk-rock and country bands, continues to tour, sing and play guitar across the country. Clarissa Fortin is a prolific young singer-songwriter who has performed around Ottawa and beyond as a solo artist and with the band Maple Grove.
What Steve and Clarissa share is a love for the songs of Leonard Cohen. Clarissa puts it this way: "He’s dark, weird, cryptic and sardonic. He captures for me the distinct feeling of being a single small person in a chaotic unfeeling world. And yet every once in a while he reveals himself to be profoundly hopeful. That contrast - darkness and light, chaos and peace - just feels right to me these days."
