National Arts Centre - City Room 1, 1 Elgin St.
Price: FREE

Join the Ottawa Art Gallery for an all-day updating of Wikipedia entries on female and non-binary artists based in the Ottawa-Gatineau region. We will provide tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian, a list of suggested articles, and reference materials. No background knowledge required!

Wikipedia's gender trouble is well documented. While the reasons for the gender gap are up for debate, the practical effect of this disparity, however, is not. Content is skewed by the lack of female participation. This represents an alarming absence in an increasingly important repository of shared knowledge. Let’s change that!

Bring your laptop and power cord. Stay as long or as little as you would like, all participation is welcome. People of all gender identities and expressions, particularly transgender, cisgender, and gender nonconforming women, are invited to participate.

Tutorials will be delivered in English, but participants are welcome to submit edits to French Wikipédia. Additionally, Francophone facilitators will be available to assist French-speaking participants in the evening portion of the event.

Presented in partnership with the National Arts Centre and the Embassy of Sweden.
