In honour of Ella Fitzgerald’s birthday having passed yesterday on April 25th, our In a Mellow Tone host Natalie McGrath will be doing a special on her life and legacy!
For more than half a century, Ella was arguably the most popular female jazz singer in the United States, recording over 200 albums, and winning over the hearts of many with her beautiful voice, powerful range, impeccable dictation and playful scatting. She was also the first black artist to win a Grammy.
By the end of her career, she had recorded 2,000 songs, sold over 40 million albums and had fourteen Grammy awards to her name.
