Saxophonist Petr Cancura

Ottawa Saxophonist Petr Cancura studied at the New England Conservatory and spent 10 years in New York City playing with a wide array of musicians including Chick Corea. He currently is artistic director of the Ottawa International Jazz Festival. Tonight we will survey his last three CDs including the just release Don’t Let It Stop. Cancura’s style is an interesting fusion between many different styles of Jazz, from Be Bop to cool to Free Jazz and folk music including Country Music. This may be explained by the fact that he also plays banjo, an iconic musical instrument of folk music and early Jazz.
