| Stitching Small Tears is a compilation that came out in 1982 featuring electronic music from the Vancouver area. I discovered it while trying to track down music for a show I'll be doing in a few weeks. A cassette-only release, it is now available as a 2-CDR reissue.
We start with some instrumental synth music from Glen Nelson, who was also in the synth pop group Images in Vogue. |

| D.A. Dettmar, aka Del Dettmar, was a former member of Hawkwind who moved to Canada in 1974. He was a member of the Melodic Energy Commission. He recorded the cassette "Synthesis" with Gerald Toon in 1980 and it was released on Melodic Energy Commission's label Energy Discs. Dettmar was later a contributor to the group Space Ritual. I don't know a lot about Gerald Toon or Paul Rudolph, but they contributed to one Melodic Energy Commission song (Perriwinkle St. from Migration of the Snails) and also the compilation track below. |

| I know little about Blair Petrie but he went on to have several cassette releases in the 80s. Lightdreams I have played a few times before; this track comes from a 1982 cassette originally as well, now reissued on CD by Got Kinda Lost records. The Schmegel Brothers are even more wrapped in mystery... it appears to be one person (the notes in the compilation are written in the first person singular) but no indication is given as to who it might be. |

| Now for a Songs With Words segment. The Courage of Lassie went on to release several albums of art pop. A new version of "Iron" appears on their 1986 album The Temptation to Exist.
Moev is alluded to in the Stitching Small Tears notes but I guess they weren't able to get their rights. These two early singles are very early 80s and fun. Images in Vogue, as previously mentioned, is early 80s synth pop. This EP was released in 1983. Member Kevin Crompton went on to found Skinny Puppy. |
