Nothing To See Hear
Wednesday July 24th, 2019 with Chris White
Angelina Cacciato, Robert Yip, Ariella Hostetter and Edmond du Rogoff –- plus Annie Sumi

This special broadcast examines the relationship between the media and non-mainstream organizations and cultural groups. Those organizations and groups have two ongoing challenges with regard to the media: (1) how to obtain media coverage of activities, issues and events associated with non-mainstream organizations and cultural groups? (2) how to address – and correct – biased or misinformed media portrayals of non-mainstream organizations and cultural groups? In the early 1990's,t o help members of non-mainstream organizations and cultural groups succeed in addressing these challenges, the Ottawa-based Media Resources Advisory Group created a "how-to" book and television series entitled 'Gaining A Voice'. They also ran over thirty workshopsrelated to media strategies. We chat with four people who were involved in those initiatives related to media-related issues that continue to be very relevant today: Angelina Cacciato, Robert Yip, Ariella Hostetter and Edmond du Rogoff. As well, we feature the first of three consecutive live interviews Chris White will be doing with much-admired Guelph-based singer-songwriter Annie Sumi (https://www.anniesumi.com). She is on an extended tour and will be performing at the Art House Café (555 Somerset Street West, Ottawa) this Thursday at 8:00 pm. You can hear the second interview tomorrow morning (Thursday) at 7:30 am, and the third one on Friday morning at 8:15 am.
