Jessie Kangok co-hosts 'Uqallagvik' on CKCU, a radio show by and for Inuit of Ottawa with Leena Arreak, Uqallagvik is broadcast primarily in Inuktitut, with some English. Uqallagvik signifies 'radio station'. It's a place for Inuit of all ages to share stories, discuss issues, and promote Inuktitut in the city. The show features Inuit music, news and public discussions in Inuktitut. It seeks to connect Ottawamiut with their families and friends in the north, and to increase the profile of Inuit among the non-Inuit community in Ottawa. Uqallagvik is the first radio program in Ottawa by and for Inuit in Inuktitut. It is the second Inuktitut radio program in Southern Canada, after Nipivut in Montreal. Uqallagvik airs on CKCU FM 93.1 and www.ckcufm.com every second Wednesday from 11:00 am to noon.

Listening in at home today. CKCU certainly gives ‘voice’ to some very powerful people with very inspiring messages.

Yay Chris—he has given so many people their ‘voice.’ Good to see the connections here within our many communities. So proud of all involved. Good to hear the Welcome To My World theme again. I too saw Jason at that show—it was fabulous.
