The International Indigenous Music Summit is happening June 8-12 online! There’s a lot of artists to be showcased, and we played A BUNCH of them: Aysanabee, Beatrice Deer, Hasaatuk, G.R. Hasaatuk comes from the west coast of BC. Her heritage stems from the Nuu-chah-nulth territory on western Vancouver Island, Woodland Cree First Nation near Fort Mcmurray, and Finnish ancestry.

Her music explores a diverse range of indigenous, environmental and social horizons that combine a blend of acoustic, blues and alternative styles of expression. In addition to her musical path, Kalilah is actively involved in activism and advocacy for the protection and preservation of Indigenous lands, culture and language.

Aysanabee is an Oji-Cree multi-instrumentalist, producer and singer-songwriter currently based in Toronto. His sound ranges from Lofi-R&B with layered electronica and looped instruments to Indie-pop backed by session musicians.

He was featured in the Indigenous Music Awards Emerging Artists Series and was in the running for the IMA’s music video competition for his song The Dawn.

Morgan Toney, the Mi’kmaq fiddler, is gearing up for his debut album. The 21-year-old likes to blend the sounds of his fiddle with Mi’kmaq songs like the Mi’kmaq honour song and the Ko’jua. And he hopes the unique sounds can draw people in.

Mamarudegyal MTHC is a Vancouver based Hip Hop and R&B Artist born and raised in Siksika Nation, Alberta. In 2012, Diana was given the name Mamarudegyal MTHC by her Calgary KRUMP family Empirical Freedom and began her journey as a Solo Hip Hop and R&B Artist soon after.

Moving to Vancouver, BC in 2014, Diana AKA Mamarudegyal MTHC quickly became a mainstay on the Underground Hip Hop Scene where she joined forces with Native Rap duo Status Krew to found Rudegang Entertainment. Releasing her debut EP ‘MRG EP’ in 2016, and taking home two Fraser Valley Music Awards (Best Hip Hop - Female, Queer Excellence in Music) in 2017, Mamarudegyal MTHC has made quite a name for herself and has the scene waiting impatiently for her follow up album, currently in progress.

Kanen is from Uashat Mak Mani-Utenam Innu First Nation. This singer-songwriter has a folk-pop style, but each of her songs carries its own sound. Music has been part of her life since she was a child and started playing with a collective. In her solo show, Kanen plays the ukulele, which gives a particular color to her songs. She mainly practices her compositions at home and is inspired by her own life experiences.

G.R. Gritt is a Juno Award winning, Two-Spirit, Transgender, Francophone, Anishinaabe/Métis artist and after living many years in Yellowknife, they have returned to Sudbury/Robinson Huron Treaty territory where they grew up. This homecoming coincides with a journey that they feel better represents them. With these changes has come a new voice both physically and in the growing magnetism of their songwriting.

The Powergoats are an Ottawa rock outfit delivering a strong range of musical dynamics and live shows entertaining thousands of people in Ontario and Quebec since they emerged on the scene in 2009. Led by singer-songwriter Jamie Douglas, the sounds of this sizable band have been described as "retro rock pre-soaked in blues, with a hint of folk". The Powergoats' line up also features Andrew Burns (bass, vocals, keyboards), Wes Reed (drums), Jeff Logan (lead guitar), Dee Butters (vocals), Scottie Irving (keys), Zeek Gross (saxophone), Kelly Craig (trumpet), and Erik Johnson Scherger (violin).

Their fourth studio album "The Powergoats In 3D" will be released in late summer 2021. Other releases include Blue Canoe (2019), the live album 'Live in the Summer Sun' (2016), Ruby Headlights (2014), Bottled Sunset (2012), and two early demo CDs; Moonlit Crimes (2010), and Chrome Libido (2008).
