NEW LOCAL MUSIC!

Bio:
Blake Alexander is a 28-year-old inspired, motivated, dedicated and new upcoming artist from Ottawa, Canada. He has always loved music, always had musical abilities, but did not realize he was really preparing for his future music career. 2019 was when he really decided to pursue his music career. For the past decade, he has been battling addiction with alcohol and drugs. There have been highs and lows. In 2018 his addiction took him to places he would wish no one would ever have to be. Addicted to drugs and alcohol, he ended up homeless on the street of downtown Ottawa. However, in the last 2 years he has remained sober.

He ended up living in hospitals, shelters and trap houses to stay out of the cold. During the summer, he lived in parks and anywhere else he could. Though, still struggling, he kept working on his craft. He proceeded to find anyway to record his music, by any means possible. He would record in cars, parks, hospital washrooms and libraries. In 2018 he decided that he had enough and checked himself into a long-term Christian based drug and alcohol treatment center in Ottawa. He explained that he knew God was always present in his life and was watching over him. This is when he really accepted the help he needed and got connected with community. He also has built his relationship with Jesus during his time in treatment.

NEW LOCAL MUSIC & AN INTERVIEW!

Bio:
Danah-Lee is an Ottawa Valley singer songwriter and music educator. For the last decade, Danah has been teaching many musical minds, young and old. And still, she makes time for her own creative works.

Groundwork for Danah’s musical knowledge began at a young age, when she would literally steal music out of the trash after Sunday morning church services. Danah was determined to learn the complexities of chords, vibrations, and sounds; wanting to know how each flowed together to create music. Since then, Danah has learned how to use her knowledge freely and has developed a framework for creating music and expressing what is happening internally.

With a voice described as “crisp, pure and powerful,” Danah-Lee has been singing songs that share snippets into her life experiences.

NEW LOCAL MUSIC!

Bio:

Bio:
Though her songwriting roots can be traced back to an early age, Ottawa-native Caitlin Roe didn’t discover her alter ego cicæda until early 2017.

After the release of her debut single Patience, waves of support and encouragement from friends and family created a desire to begin pursuing her art to a career-oriented degree. This led to the release of subsequent singles Peach & Lemonade and Fine in the summer followed by her debut EP Songs I Wrote About U in the fall of 2018.

Ironwood Quartet - s/t Canadian
LOCAL MUSIC!

Bio:
THE IRONWOOD QUARTET is made up of four dynamic and passionate Canadian musicians: Jessica Linnebach and Carissa Klopoushak (violins), David Marks (viola), and Julia MacLaine (cello), a quartet of curious musicians whose home base is Canada’s National Arts Centre. During the short years since their debut in 2014, Ironwood has become one of Canada’s premiere chamber music ensembles. Originally from Edmonton, Saskatoon, Vancouver, and PEI and with musical interests ranging from Beethoven and Ravel to Philip Glass, Ukrainian and American folk music, Tango and Radiohead, their programming reflects a belief in the power of great music to unite.

They first performed together in the inaugural NAC's WolfGANG Sessions at Ottawa’s Mercury Lounge (a series devoted to contemporary chamber music) and immediately felt the strength of their musical connection and their common passion for the tremendous and extensive repertoire for string quartet. Ironwood has achieved critical acclaim for their “take no prisoners” approach to performances and has appeared in Ottawa at the NAC’s Music for a Sunday Afternoon series, at the Steinway Gallery and at the Ritornello Chamber Music Festival in Saskatoon, collaborating with pianists Jon Kimura Parker and Inon Barnatan.
