NEW LOCAL MUSIC!

House Hippo was in the house! Or, more specifically, outside of the house in my backyard! We talked local theatre, east coast roots, lovely harmony, and 90’s PSA’s!

From their Bio:
Born and raised in the 90s and proud to believe in all things said on TV, House Hippo is Ottawa’s #1 Folk Duo named after a PSA. House Hippo blends classic folk and indie-pop-folk styles to create a sound that is great for easy listening and dancing. Carley Richards and Ian McMullen have been making music together for a little over 2 years, and are excited to share their harmonies with anyone who still believes in the North American House Hippo.

NEW LOCAL MUSIC! Local artist Nambi (formerly Rita Carter) Played the Drive-In Bluesfest this past weekend! She has new music and a couple of writeups in both Ottawa Showbox and Shifter! I’ve linked them below!

From Showbox:
Nambuusi Kyeyune, also known by her stage name Nambi, is an Ottawa-based artist who reminds us that music is still a force for good, and that we can learn a lot from each other by listening and learning. Even through a pandemic, civil unrest, and divisive discourse following the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor—and countless others—Nambi offers a powerful message of defiance and optimism for the future.

NEW LOCAL MUSIC!

Winnie came by to tell me all about her brand new tunes! We waxed poetic on Open Mic, isolation creation, and how

From her Bio:
My name is Winnie Julot; my artist name is Nini-Marie, and I am a 21-year-old singer/songwriter. I've written songs on the piano, guitar, and ukulele. I was born in Trenton, New Jersey and raised in Fort Myers, Florida with Haitian roots. I have been living for a decade in Ottawa, Ontario as a permeant resident. Ottawa has an amazing music scene and I showcase my music by participating in local shows and attending open mic venues on a regular basis.
The first time I accompanied myself on stage, singing original music was at St. Patricks Highschool at age 17, I hadn’t realized the power my voice till the first few words left my lips. The crowd came to an abrupt silence and at that exact moment, I knew what I was born to do.
My songs talk about healing, hope, human relationships, and compassion.

NEW LOCAL MUSIC!

Jeans contacted me outta da blue from the CKCU website! From Ottawa, has music, looking for airtimes…. That checks all my boxes!

From their bio:
The 'Jeans' solo project was born out of the absolute need to continue playing music on my own. After playing in many bands throughout the years, I hit a wall with being able to assemble a band that stayed consistent. Personally, I was also going through some life stuff, and have always written a lot of songs. The first track I recorded was 'Gas Hands', and I managed to pull in some of my musician friends to play on it with me. The remaining four songs was just me and an engineer, a great engineer at that! 'Jean's' is just one of my many nicknames that revolve around pants for whatever reason, and was also a guideline for writing simple, straight ahead rock songs, often left behind in todays music climate.
