Hey Karlo! Glad you're listening. Settle in, man; I've got the next half hour or so set up with nothing but Fela!

Wrote a paper on Kuti last year for one of my courses in my MA Music connecting Juju guru King Sunny Ade to Kuti then David Byrne and Talking Heads. Thanks for the tunes man!

That's great. The Talking Heads were totally influenced by Fela and King Sunny Ade. I've played on the show before a Talking Heads outtake called "Fela's Riff", and a tune called "Ade" by David Byrne from his music for The Catherine Wheel, which I'm pretty sure is named in tribute to King Sunny.

I believe you are somewhat correct in saying a tribute. “The Red House” mimics the voicing of Juju music. Twyla Tharp and Byrne had a brief relationship as a result of her asking him to commission the musical score for her ballet. Her choreography was influenced by Nigerian dance sequences.

What's this playing at 2:23

See, now, I didn't know that the choreography was also influenced by Nigeria. Good info, Karl!
