Martin Luther King Day - so let's spin some music that features the words and ideas of the great American statesman who worked to end racism, advance the rights of African Americans and to promote equality for everyone

We open with Blue Monday by New Order and dispense with the nonsense that today is the most depressing day of the year - since this idea was coined by a UK travel agency to help market international travel during the winter months. While seasonal affective disorder is real and affects many people, the idea that today is the most depressing day of the year is total nonsense. What isn't nonsense is the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. and today is his birthday and a national holiday in the United States of America. The music speaks for itself tonight, as the various artists featured in the first hour use King's words within their songs to promote themes like equality, diversity, resilience and unity while calling out racism and segregation. A lot of great and inspirational music is featured on the show tonight. I hope you enjoy it and that it raises your spirits.
