The Wavelength
Monday March 14th, 2022 with Joe Reilly
Great new releases in Hour 1 including Ken Yates (with Kathleen Edwards) and brand new Band of Horses, and in Hour 2 we get a little funky

NOTE: I mistakenly said we had listened to the song Ten Roses from Jadea Kelly's new album... when it was in fact the song "Driveway." Oops ... sorry about that. In hour one we listen to a lot of great new releases - many singles that have been released in advance of some much-anticipated new albums coming in the next few weeks or months. The single from Ken Yates features Kathleen Edwards on vocal harmonies and combined with the Cowboy Junkies's cover of David Bowie's "Five Years" these two songs really fit our times with the shadow of nuclear war hanging over the Russian invasion of the Ukraine. As promised here is the link to a chilling article about the possibility of humans surviving a nuclear war. It is grim, and unlike those IMAX movies about environmental degradation, it does not wrap up with a friendly and happy solution that we can look forward to if we all recycle or stop eating shark fin soup. It simply outlines what will happen if "the big one comes" as Ken Yates sings in his new song tonight. https://allianceforscience.cornell.edu/blog/2022/03/what-the-science-says-could-humans-survive-a-nuclear-war-between-nato-and-russia/ We also feature several songs from the brand new Band of Horses album "Things Are Great." It's the group's first album since 2016 and only the second album in the last 10 years. Fans have been waiting for this one, and the wait seems to have been worth it based on the songs we spin on the show tonight. Also as noted during the show, here is the link to the Bandcamp site where you can listen to and purchase the albums produced as part of the Pros and Cons program. This is a program that helps people who are incarcerated in Canadian prisons to write, record and produce music. Based on the three albums released to date, this is a vital and important project to check out if you're a fan of truly engaging music that comes from the heart. https://prosandconsprogram.bandcamp.com If you'd like to go see Rich Aucoin at Club SAW on Friday night (March 18th) get tickets using this link: https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/rich-aucoin-stoby-bucko-tickets-224372412927?aff=ebdsoporgprofile And here is that epic clip of Stevie Wonder and his smokin' band playing Superstition live on Sesame Street. Definitely worth a watch!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ul7X5js1vE Enjoy. Stay well and stay safe out there. Thanks for listening.
