Monday February 21st, 2022 with Joe Reilly
Another Black History Month special featuring music from Africa and dub poets

The program tonight features primarily African artists as we continue to celebrate Black History Month here on the Wavelength. You will hear iconic African voices like Baaba Maal, Thomas Mapfumo, Fela Kuti, Angelique Kidjo and Oumou Sangare. Although they are not from Africa, we also feature some great Black poets and dub poets like Mutabaruka, the Last Poets, Linton Kwesi Johnson and Canada's own Lillian Allen. Speaking of great Afro-Canadian artists we feature the late Tariq Abubakar and Mighty Popo - who once called Ottawa home but has returned to Africa and now lives in Rwanda. Check out this Ottawa Citizen story on Popo that was written by CKCU's Stephen Neale back in 2020 after visiting with Popo in Rwanda. It tells of the amazing work Popo has been doing in Rwanda - founding a music school and a great music festival. https://ottawacitizen.com/entertainment/local-arts/catching-up-with-popo-musician-making-a-mighty-effort-in-rwanda
