Each year beginning in late October, we at CKCU-FM ask our listeners to financially invest in order to help us operate and grow. And so, today, I ask you to securely 'Click and Contribute'. CKCU-FM is a volunteer-driven community-based radio station, meaning: What you see in Ottawa is what you hear on 93.1 FM. CKCU-FM has many programs that transmit directly to the different communities that compose our diverse and vibrant community and are not represented elsewhere on the airwaves. It amplifies community voices. My job is to convince you to invest. I hope that you can, but if you do not, or cannot, that is okay too. Perhaps you are already contributing money or time to an organization or to an issue that you are equally passionate about. CKCU-FM is passionate radio existing on the margins. And because it is radio programmed by committed volunteers, it is warmer than any algorithm service churning up music or community news. And it takes just a little more than $50 an hour to run our operations. The Saturday Morning program, hosted by a passionate collective of (could read as musically obsessive) Pat Moore, Mike Regenstreif, Alan Surmachynski and me, features an incredible range and depth of music from the very new to the very old including: reggae, blues, soul, jazz, gospel, latin, cajun, celtic, country, folk, old-time, bluegrass, world and more. All of which mix and mingle with a healthy staple of local music to produce an inclusive global transmission. On this program, I am going to present some of the highlights from the past year while describing how for almost 47 years CKCU-FM has added value to our city. Chances are, well, I am pretty certain, based on feedback, that over the past year you have found a new artist or two or three by listening to the program!
