Saturday Morning
Saturday January 16th, 2016 with Pat Moore
bit of this, bit of that...

I'll start the show with a good chunk of Act 1 of The Rose of Roscrae, a folk opera written by Tom Russell and featuring so many great singers, including Jimmy Dale Gilmore, Johnny Cash, Joe Ely, Tex Ritter, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, and more... Let's see how far we get in an hour. At 8am (or when the sleep has left his eyes) Shawn Tavenier will join me for another great version of the Shawn and Pat morning show. :) Shawn will bring in some tunes, and I'll have some on hand too, including that new to me David Wiffen CD. Cheers!
The Rose of Roscrae (A Ballad of the West) "I left my home in Templemore, County Tipperary, in the 1880's, Age 16. Torn away from my first love, the Rose of Roscrae. Sailed to America. A cowboy for to be! Like Sam Bass! I'd heard the songs and read the dime novels. Looking back now, from ninety years, at odd fragments. It started with a hangin' - in the middle of the story, so to speak. Always toward redemption or oblivion...and a cowboy song! Out where love is the last frontier."

When was this recorded? It's good to hear Johnny Cash's voice again.

Joel Plaskett is very a talented guy. However he's from Lunenburg Nova Scotia not Cape Breton. By the way, his father is also a very talented musician. Show sounds good today - thanks!
