Annual Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan tribute show; tribute to Doudou N'diaye Rose

Today we remember and honour one of the world's greatest artists, Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. We hear from a new recording by Dildar Hussain Khan, Nusrat's principal tabla player for several decades. Today he has his own Qawwali party with his sons as vocalists and solos by his son Abraar Khan. Their new album "Sur Sangeet" features traditional Qawwali repertoire with a few very unusual and cool additions including the piano on several tracks. We will also hear some pieces from Nusrat's extensive repertoire including a phenomenal live performance of his classic "Haq Ali Maula". After 18 years, you are still sorely missed... Just learned today, the phenomenal Senegalese percussionist Doudou N'diaye Rose has died. We will hear the Earth move by this master's drums.

Listen to Nusrat stretch out and play with those phrases at the start then trading it off with the 2nd soloist, possibly his nephew Rahat, this is Greatness. The long sublime introduction until the song and the rhythm break at 11:45 or so. Then the song proper continues with each phrase building tension higher before suddenly Nusrat interrupts and adds in a classical Sargam vocal improvisation in duet. Unbelievable. Genius. Nusrat is peerless.
