This Week's Genre: Funk (1960s - late 1980s) Next week's Genre: Shoegaze We're getting groovy on this Monday, with some Classic Funk! It emerged in the mid 1960s by blending soul, gospel and r&b vocal styles and emotional expression with the complicated syncopation, rhythms and instrumentals of jazz and cultural music. Its unique ability to get people dancing with its repetitive, syncopated rhythms, raw energy and expression is what makes funk so easily lovable and special. It'll bring some joy and downright infectious energy to this dreary Monday.
