It's a busy month!
Today's broadcast features a few artists from this year's Ottawa Jazz Festival, including Canada's very own Angelique Francis Band and TOBi.
Born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, JUNO Award winner Angelique Francis is a naturally gifted musician, who first garnered attention at a young age as a piano and vocal prodigy. This multi-talented, multi-instrumentalist, multi-genre singer-songwriter and composer has wowed audiences across the globe with her electrifying performances, instrumental abilities, and powerful textured vocals. Angelique Francis and her band, The Angelique Francis Band, are versatile and exceptionally gifted musicians. Known for their eclectic mix of various musical genres (including Blues, Folk, Soul, Jazz, Roots, Rock, Gospel and Americana), they have played and shared the stage with renowned musicians such as Buddy Guy, Gary Clark Jr, Sugar Ray and the list goes on. Angelique's diversity, passion and love of music can be heard in all of her original compositions. TOBi is a 5-time JUNO winning rapper and singer, born in Nigeria, moving to Canada as a child. Voted by Complex Magazine as “a top artist to watch,” TOBi has received critical acclaim from the likes of Billboard, Rolling Stone, i-D, COLORS, and Sway In The Morning. He released his debut album, STILL, in May 2019, exploring themes of vulnerability, post traumatic growth, self-reflection and masculinity in his time emigrating from Nigeria to Canada, and has since released multiple phenomenal projects. On top of recording and performing, TOBi is a co-founder of UNPACK Community, a series of constructive discussions on mental wellness in creative fields.
