Revisiting Iran’s musical renaissance and diaspora — from pre-1979 sounds to contemporary voices — holding space for culture, memory, and continuity across generations.
Most of our music shared came from the Iranian musical renaissance 1953-1979, or artists from the diaspora.
In 1979 religious upheaval and the Iranian revolution led to Kohmeini eliminating the Iranian record business, destroying recording studios, and sending many musicians into exile around the world. | Up next, we’re playing a classic voice from the golden era of Iranian pop — Nooshafarin. Nooshafarin (نوشآفرین) is a beloved Iranian singer and former actress who first rose to prominence in the 1970s before the revolution. Her name means “creator of joy” in Persian. She began her artistic journey as a teenager in Tehran and became known for her melodic pop songs that blend traditional Persian sounds with Western‑influenced pop styles.
🎶 After the 1979 revolution, she left Iran and continued her music career abroad, eventually settling in North America where she remained a cherished figure in the Iranian diaspora music scene. |

Known for blending Persian melodies with a modern pop style, his music captured romance, charm, and play. Beyond his artistry, Farrokhzad was a vocal advocate for freedom, continuing his work in exile after the 1979 revolution. Here’s a classic from his golden-era repertoire. |
