Show starts off with the brand new single from Ottawa's amazing FAWNEY COVES!
| FAWNEY COVES
Ottawa's FAWNEY COVES features the amazing vocals of NICKY BRODIE. KEVIN PICKLES used to work at ABM Records back in the 1990's. Together they are the wildly creative core of FAWNEY COVES. Here is biographical supplied by the band: "fawney coves released their self-funded album 'The Visiting Card' in December 2025 and the singles 'Something About' and 'Last Chance' in June and September 2025. This work encompasses a plethora of ideas with influences ranging from folk, pop, jazz, spoken word and dance. It utilises their eclectic collection of instruments, percussion, musical references and images and employs the skills of musicians and artists in the region and overseas. Also included is the former Ottawa resident, now Berlin-based, experimental electronica artist Rollo Brodie and his DJ project Hyperchrist (The Void CHUO). Singer-songwriter and founder member of fawney coves, Nicky Brodie has been a part of the Canadian music scene and theatre scene since emigrating to Canada from the UK in the early 1990's. In the UK she was a member of the all-girl London pop band Coming Up Roses as a vocalist and percussionist. Highlights included a tour on Billy Bragg's Red Wedge Women's tour and a release of the CD/Album 'I Said Ballroom!' on his label 'Utility'. She also worked as lead vocalist with Simon Ambrose of the Opera House, Covent Garden, London, producing ambient/jazz works. After emigrating to Ottawa, Canada, Nicky worked with Kif-Kif, a franco-Ontario/Quebec outfit as a vocalist, touring events and festivals in Quebec, Manitoba and Ontario. The CD 'Tout l'univers' was released in 1996. She also recorded and performed with Liquified (CD "Maintainin"), Paul Demers (CD "Encore une fois"), Steve Groves (CD Baby 'Dream a Dream', 'Just passing thru') The Hammerheads (CD/Album 'The Hammerheads'), Daniel Boivin (Theatre/Dance project) and 4 piece vocal group Cantarra founded by Lee Hayes. As a child Kevin Pickles was introduced to his uncle’s record collection – 78’s! – and so discovered Rock ‘n Roll. His now extensive collection of 45’s was initiated with birthday and Christmas gifts from the uncle. The was his route into musicology. Kevin’s diverse music library combines digital files with CD’s, cassettes, vinyl, shellac and wax cylinders. Kevin had a novelty drumkit when he was still a child and an electric guitar as an adolescent. As a musician he is largely self-taught. Today he plays guitar, mandolin and banjo. For years Kevin has composed on his guitar. Not being a singer he has not thought to compose lyrics. In the past couple of years he and his partner Nicky Brodie have discovered the ability to create and record original music together. They share similar broad influences which surface in the songwriting." Their new single "Rumble Love (Sicilian Boy)" is already creating interest in the United States. It is - "Inspired by a train journey from Messina to Palermo, Sicily. A gorgeous young couple - He, asleep, She, stroking his beautiful locks. He wakes up, says a few words then gets out his Nintendo Switch. We, that’s She and me, exchange knowing glances…." |
