This civilization of ours; the western civilization, started developing faster and faster during the 18th and 19th centuries. During the 20th century the pace of development slowly accelerated. That acceleration greatly increased during the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's with the power and influence of corporations matching if not surpassing that of nation states. Since the early 1990's that previously mentioned acceleration has kept increasing at a hyper rate. The development of the 'consumer societies' in separate economies have had negative impacts on their climates. With the profound impact of the internet and information revolution those previously mentioned consumer societies have further morphed into one international consumer society. the information revolution has changed the face of the planet and the very nature of our civilization in ways previously unfathomed; further weakening the nation state system that has so delicately maintained development and security.
