| Part 2 of the Aladdin Records Story. Founded in 1945 by the two brothers Edward and Leo Mesner, it started out as Philo but changed its name to Aladdin after a lawsuit over the name. It soon started to focus on the blues and four of the performers featured today fall into the blues category. Lighnin' Hopkins joined Aladdin first and brought Peppermint Harris to Aladdin's attention and he was quickly signed. On the R&B side, The Five Keys shaped vocal R&B in the early 50's. |
